Foothills of the Sierra Madre

Join Sendero Mexico on a birding tour into the biologically rich tropical deciduous forest typical of the area surrounding Mazatlan. At sunrise, travelling in an air-conditioned vehicle, we leave the coastal area characterized by coastal mangrove lagoons and thorn shrub habitat and head east into the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental.

On this birdwatching tour participants may see the Rufous-bellied Chachalaca, Elegant Quail, Military Macaw, Mexican Parrolet, Orange-fronted Parakeet, White-fronted Parrot, Lesser Roadrunner, Citreoline Trogon, Beryline and Violet-crowned Hummingbirds, Golden-cheeked, Pale-billed and Lineated Woodpeckers, Pacific Slope Flycatcher, Mangrove Swallow, Black-throated Magpie and Purplish-backed Jays, Sinaloa Crow, Sinaloa and Happy Wrens, Blue Mockingbird, Black-capped Vireo and Shrub Euphonia among many others. After a morning of birding we will stop for lunch in one of the quaint colonial mining towns found in the region.
